Youth shoes in the upper sizes are still built on a women's shoe model for depth. This can cause a problem when a 12, 13, or 14 year old goes to buy the shoes. My 13 year old needed a men's shoe (hard to find in small sizes) as opposed to a Youth shoe because his foot had already started to develop into a man's depth (thicker foot at the arch). So no matter how wide you keep buying the youth shoe the child keeps feeling the shoe is too narrow when really the shoe is too SHALLOW. Important to keep in mind and I hope this helps you as I did not know this information until I had tried over 4 pairs of shoes for my son. He ended up with a men's size 6 shoe.
