I purchased these for my son, and he loves them(also purchased for my daughter in purple)! One of the things I like most about this shoe so far is that it is very light and flexible while at the same time being very warm. The lining which is called "Thermalite insulation" is very thin but extremely warm. My children are able to wear these boots in sub-zero temps without complaints. The boot shaft comes between mid calf and knee and has a nice draw string so that no snow gets in the top. The only downfall (which I can totally live with) is that the lining comes out every time my sontakes his feet out. Other than that, they are arguably the best boots I've purchased. My son is very picky when it comes to shoes. He is almost 4. Last year he would scream and fight us when we needed to put boots on him. Not this year! He loves these boots and has even insisted on wearing them to daycare. They are a win!The foot part of this Merrell Snow Quet Lite Waterproof Snow boot is a hard shell, and the colorful upper part is soft. One concern is how comfortable that shell will be once our son is out playing, seating on the floor or kneeling as the shell is quite hard. I can review this part later, once we get our new pair.We had to exchange them for a bigger size. Our son is in between sizes (12.5) and we had bought a pair of snow boots from T a r g e t size 13. Well, they were too big to the point that he was dragging his feet, so when we looked at these boots (and based on many reviews saying that it is true to its size) we ordered sz 12. The narrow 'neck' of the boot and the rigidity of the foot shell made it hard to slide his feet in, and it cannot be used without the inner lining --which seems to be the warm part of the boot -- as without it it is quite hard and cold.I love these boots! Santa brought the purple ones for my daughter for Christmas and I had to find these for my son also. They are so warm and light. My favorite part is the whole rubber bottom and how far up it comes. It seems that so often, under the snow is mud. These are certainly up to any conditions! My kids had both of their pairs absolutely mud covered and filthy and they wiped right off. They were a little more expensive than I wanted to pay, but they are totally worth it. Plus, I bought them big knowing that they can use them next season as well and they don't slip or flop on their feet.I purchased these for my daughter, and she loves them( also purchased these for my son in blue)! Other than that, they are arguably the best boots I've purchased!I bought these for my 10 yr old grandson after letting him choose for himself from 5-6 different known quality brands. He loved the look immediately and didn't hesitate choosing the Merrill. A couple of months into our upstate NY winter, I followed up on him about the boots which appeared still like new in the hands (feet) of this highly active young boy. He LOVES them! He stated that his feet were always warm no matter how long he was out and that even during a "slush puddle battle" with his friends, he never got wet inside the boot.I like these boots, their is no better feeling knowing that my kid is going outside with out cold wet feet, that being said they are tight around the ankle and offer no flex so its hard for my 6year old with a 12.5 to make it work and get her foot in the hole, but when they are in their is no better boot. And what's the deal with a -40F and then a -40C what a joke like who ever is responsible for that should be forced to learn the difference duh. These boots are very warm for my boys. The liner IS removable, but only if you pull it out on purpose. I like that these boots come up higher on the calf than most snow boots. The lower part of the boot is quite flexible compared to the Sorel snow flurry boots that we have previously used. I will update this review if they don't hold up to little boy abuse.Edited to add: The outer fabric of these boots do absorb water. It is an easy fix with a quick coat or two of Scotchguard. So far we have used these for one snowy winter. They show very little wear and tear. Light and sturdy! He can fit an extra sock if needed. I asked my son to give his review: Easy on/off, warm, comfortable. Waterproof up to the fabric, they don't fall off while playing, perfect height. The lining is removable for faster drying. HINT: My son has a tall foot (high arch & high top of foot), so he needs extra room in the "lace area". These are perfect!!it's a faff with these boots and my daughter needs someone to hold the liner in place while she gets her foot in or it bunches up. she also complains that they are slightly 'itchy' (they feel like felted wool), though this is less of a problem when she's wearing a slightly thicker sock. they dont swim about on her feet like many other snow boots though which is great and they're nice and light weightBought for my daughter who now won't keep them off her feet. Being purple they are her favourite item of footwear at the moment. It has only one downside - it is really designed for COLD WEATHER. So if you are thinking of using it in the UK it is probably the wrong choice.Really hard boot to get on and off.Great boot, extremely comfortable and attractive
