This book was listed as a reference book in our homeschool curriculum, but I see it as essential especially if you have boys who don't love to read. My 9yo spent a long time with this book studying how to make little habitats for insects to keep them for a few days. Reading this book led him to want to learn more about how to identify various insects in our yard. Some of the ways for keeping bugs are pretty simple and don't require special equipment (a cloth over an amazon box worked great). I highly recommend it.
