Sketchers has been producing light up shoes for years for kids. Unfortunately, for years, their light up shoes rarely worked past the first few months and the LEDs (light emitting diodes) often died from the harsh movements of the child. Or one shoe would work while the other died too early and the child would be disappointed. (very common with their police shoes for little boys)Apparently though, in the last year or two, quality control has improved. This Vroom model of shoes appears to have a higher quality of LEDs built into it and they can even be changed through three color choices by pushing the emblem on the side of the shoe. The tread on this Vroom model is also better than previous models and is stitched through and double glued. For my small son, previous models of Sketchers light up shoes would last him for a few months at most before the LEDs died. And the shoe would generally be coming apart by the six month mark. With this latest Vroom model both the shoe and the LEDs are still going strong at the six month mark. And the since the quality is better and my son seems happy with them, I can easily recommend them.We try to buy light up sneakers for our son whenever possible so that we can see him easily when we're out on evening walks. He tends to race ahead all the time! This is the first time we bought this particular style. The difference between the Night Lighters and other styles is that there's a button inside each sneaker that allows you to turn the lights on and off. My son thinks this is so cool, but I took off one start because I feel that some children might find the button irritating. It does stick out a tiny bit I imagine it being a problem for a child with a wide foot or who wears thin socks. My son complained about it for about a minute and then forgot all about it. Like I said, he loves the sneakers now.Quality of shoe is great, I love the sole is not that foamy soft garbage. My kids are very active and we hike a lot, and the massive tread on these shoes is fantastic. My sons left shoe however started flashing and didn't turn off.I tried whacking it (after trying button etc) I tried throwing it, I put it in the dryer for 10 minutes. Nothing would stop it.Finally it turned off on its own the next am and now seems to work fine?I was pissed because they are expensive and the one broke immediately, but it now appears to be working correctly and my son loves them. There is definitely an issue with these shoes. The first pair that we received we sent back. One of the shoes stopped lighting up after three days and the other shoe wouldn't turn off. We exchanged them with another pair (Amazon promptly shipped us another pair and paid the shipping to ship these back). The new shoes were fine for a couple of days, but now we are having issues with this pair. Same problem except this time it is the right shoe that has a problem instead of the left shoe. Pressing the switch on the shoe does change the lights, but does not resolve the issue we are having. We have purchased other pairs of Skechers light up shoes and never had a problem. Odd that we are having issues now.My son loves these shoes... so we are just going to keep the second pair. It would just be great if they worked the way they were supposed to.Update: 09/07/16: The lights were dead on these shoes within two weeks. I wrote to Amazon about the issue and they were apologetic and said they would be looking into it further. My son continues to wear the shoes as there is nothing wrong with the shoes themselves.. just the lights. Incredibly bad quality control though on Skechers part. I see lots of others complain about the same problem. It is so odd though since my son has had other Skechers shoes that lit up and worked just fine. If the lights are important to your kids, do not buy these shoes.Had the blue ones for my older kid; so my younger kid wanted them too. Switching to red for the next size up. These are GREAT shoes - as long as you don't get them soaked (then they stop flashing.. as we learned from the old pair..). So why did we get these again? The kids really love them. So far, these are the only shoes both kids wanted more than one time. Unlike some models of light-up shoes, my older son said these weren't as "pokey". For parents, these are super bright and easy for parents to see / find their kids at night. If you don't want to attract attention; you can turn the lights off with the button. Also, the entire bottom lights up (not like the teeny dots on some other light-up shoes..). I just hope the manufacturer keeps making this model. It is difficult for me to order children's shoes on line, but these were a snap! My son loves them, they are easy for him to put on and take off. They have lots of support. We live where there is a lot of gravel and dirt, so finding shoes with good grip tred on the bottom was essential and these shoes have them. Lastly, we really like the fact that the shoes light up, but you can turn off the lights too. When at the aquarium or movie theater, we can shut off the light, but in crowded places where I need to keep track of him, having his shoes light up is a big plus. I just wish they in bigger sizes. He will need a 4 next, and they don't come any bigger as of this writing.I bought a pair for my grandson's birthday. Now they are the only shoes he ever wears. They're pretty bright which makes him easy to find in the dark. He's been wearing them EVERYDAY since he got them. I was wondering when the LEDs would start to dim, so he'd get tired of wearing them, but there still going strong as ever. This is definitely a durable shoe .My 7 year old has been wearing these for two months now and they have held up so far. The light on the right one died one week in, and the light on the left stayed on and died last week, so if your buying them for the "light up" option then expect that part not to last. As far as the velcro strap, tread, and fit, those have held up nicely.
