Wore these in Ireland. They were waterproof! This is a high quality hiking boot, just a poor fit for WIDE feet. My 10 year old loved the look but they are too tight in the toes for his size 6 WIDE Fred Flintstone feet. Will be returning and ordering another Merrell boot in a WIDE size. :(I've been shopping for a durable and comfortable hiking shoe for my 11yo son. I have my own Merrell hiking shoes that are also waterproof and a very similar style so I was excited to find these at a good price on Amazon. He loved the vibrant color and style and was able to wear them immediately out of the box. He said, "Ok, now we have to go hiking, Mom!" This is from a kid who typically would rather be looking at a screen or reading. This is a win for us! Also a friend asked where we got them from because she wanted them for her child. I am only giving 4 stars because I don't know how they will wear or the waterproof nature just yet.We wanted to introduce our boys (7 and 9) to backcountry hiking and camping but with them growing so much at this age didn't want to spend a ton of money on shoes they'll grow out of quickly. Our trip was almost 6½ miles round trip and had a couple of small stream crossings (pictured). The trail itself was also rather wet (Little River Trail in the Smokies if you're familiar) with muddy spots from recent rain and "running puddles", if you will, from little bitty streams that crossed it (less than an inch deep). Between the shoes and some wool socks my boys had no blisters and their feet were dry! Very happy with this purchase!I would recommend, especially if backpacking, some inserts for extra cushion.Perfect for my 13 year old who went to sleep away camp and climbed three fourteneers!Bought for 8 year old. They held up hiking in Maine. Seem to be really durable and good qualitySo far so good no issues
