Pay attention to other reviewers' comments concerning the shoe opening. I ordered these shoes for my 5 year old son to replace his Pediped dress shoes. I was in a pinch and needed them quickly so I ordered these against my better judgment after reading reviews. I ordered a size 11W. His feet are not particularly wide, but I purchased wide on the rare occasion that I purchase the Stride Rite brand. He has to work to get his foot in the shoe. We ALWAYS have to help him get his heel down into the shoe. I cannot believe these shoes are leather as they are not pliable at all and they are as tight as they were the day I bought them months ago. They feel like a Payless shoe. I typically only buy Pediped and See Kai Run shoes, so I know what leather shoes should feel like. They are also very clunky and are beginning to look scraped up. They serve the purpose now that we have them. He only wears them to church or special occasions. However, I cannot recommend these shoes to anyone who is looking for a quality leather dress shoe for their little one. I am rating them 2 stars since my little boy is wearing them. I am taking a star off for each factor of importance to me: fit, material, construction. Only buy these if they are priced right and order a size up with hopes of getting them on your little one's feet.My son usually wears an extra wide in Stride Rite shoes, but he was borderline extra wide when he was measured so I thought I would give these a try. Not even close! His toes wouldn't even fit. If you know your child has extra wide feet I would pass on these. Even if he doesn't you may need to go up at least 1/2 a size because these are very stiff. They appear well made, but the stiffness may make them uncomfortable. We usually do well with Stride Rite just not with these. When all the other moms said their sons could wear these shoes all day I thought they had to be exaggerating. But the moment my son put them on he said, "oh wow, they feel like my tennis shoes!" He wore them to a wedding and was in them all day without any bit of complaint. I was so thrilled to finally have a dress shoe that he liked! And they are very handsome - the proportions are adorable for a little boy. Perfect! It is a nice shoe for my five-year-old who goes to private school. But it's kind of hard and hot for the summer time, I think this shoe would be better for winter time.Adorable for suits and the tux my 3 year old wore for my brother in law's wedding. He is 3 with a big foot. He wears size 9-10 in most shoes. Fit was no problem cause his everyday shoes are also Stride Rite. They were very comfy for him too. No complaints while wearing them a whole day. I also bought the Deer Stag one, but that was very stiff and hard to get into.My son loves these shoes. They are comfortable and give him good traction on the playground and around school. We bought a pair last year of another brand and he broke threw them in 3 weeks, then we bought the Stride Rite Taft and they lasted the rest of the school year (9+ months) and still looked great. His foot obviously grew so we had to buy a new pair. These shoes looked and fit very nicely on my son who has wide feet. He didn't complain about them being too tight and was able to run around with them on all day.The shoe looks nice but we had issues from the start with the size. We ordered 11.5 and had a horrible time getting my son into them. So we ordered one size up and despite having room once on, I have to shoehorn him into them in the morning. They are a fairly stiff shoe and despite wearing them only 3 days a week for the last 2 mths, my son has already worn out the inside backing on the heel and scuffed up the front. Some reviews mentioned “difficult to put on or take off”. I don’t find so. According to my husband, you’re supposed to loosen up the laces before putting your feet in, especially so for dress shoes. Another reason why I don’t have the same problem is I bought these shoes for myself. I wear women size 7.5M and bought Big kid size 5.5. Women’s feet in general are skinnier I guess.Bought these shoes for my son's uniform because they say they are leather. It's only November and the "leather" is peeling off. The sole of the shoe seems good - but the uppers are falling apart in every imaginable way. For shoes that cost as much as an adult's leather shoe, I had hoped for better quality. Just had to buy Another pair of shoes (this time via the Shoe Company) for some leather slip-on loafers. Hopefully they last a little better.
