The KJ990 is the only shoe I have been buying for several years now.I have 2 girls about a shoe size apart at all times. They burned out shoes like nothing till I found these.I used to go to target or payless, but those shoes were junk and fell apart all the time.Instead of shopping for a different model as often as kids outgrow the shoes, I settled on this ONE model for as long as it comes in their size.Durable, more than you'd imagine. My autistic daughter literally murders her shoes. These still outlast her brutality. My older daughter is in track and other youth sports, and these have held up to her events and daily life.All in all, I was looking for a shoe that could outlive their growth cycles. And so far this has been a one stop shop for us!I just tell um what color options are available in their size, and they get to choose. No more this style or that style, just this one daily use shoe.Do yourself a favor and stop wasting your money on those cheaper shoes at payless. These shoes cost me less than I spent in junk bin shoes, and I buy one pair a year usually. And we still have enough life in them to gift them to the neighbor who sometimes needs a bit of time between her daughters growth and her pocket book.These shoes are amazing, just pick out a color :PI made my decision to buy these KJ990's when I read another review...I deal w/ Plantar Fascititis on one foot, and the other painful arthritis...two whammy's. Dr. suggested I buy a good pr. of running shoes, well I did just that, but I wanted a good deal, therefore I bought the Little Kid/Big Kid age group. I was a bit nervous I had never bought like that before, and sometimes trying to save $, I make stupid decisions. Well guess what?? Not this time, I am so pleased, shoes are very, very comfortable. I bought a Size 6 and I normally wear in a Ladies - a Size 7 - 71/2. Another reason I was nervous I kinda guessed. But thank you Jesus, all is well and I look forward to going home and putting my shoes on, be/c I literally had become somewhat sedentary due to pain and discomfort in my feet and now, I seriously have a lot of my quality of life back and it seems more w/ each passing day.Long story short, I love my shoes, great decision...if you can relate to my story, please don't hesitate, find a style you like - perhaps this one, you won't regret it.Great shoes. New Balance is one of the few brands that offer XW in the larger kids sizes. Both my boys have wide feet and high insteps so they absolutely need the XW. My older son who is 10 years old and Autistic wears a 5XW in these. I only wished they offered the Velcro in the bigger boys sizes. They wear okay but my son is very tough on shoes because of how he walks. If we buy him cheap Payless shoe source shoes they last him like a week if that. If we buy him these, we get about 3 or 4 months out of them before they get in really rough shape and need to be replaced. These wore better than the SAUCONY ones we bought him once a while back. We used to get Stride Rite but selections in his size seem even more limited now. The best shoe we can find for him at this point. Still waiting to find a shoe that is truly "William Tough" though. That's my son. ha. Definitely a great option for those with XW feet though.Don't waste your money on the lightweight foam New Balance shoes that have the designs printed on them -- these shoes are SO MUCH BETTER! This pair of shoes comes in a variety of size for toddlers on up and we know our child is hard on shoes but requires good stability and support. This pair of navy blue shoes feature some suede that I believe makes them hold up much longer, are warmer in winter, and can take a splash in the rain without becoming a seive. These shoes have sturdy construction and non-marking soles and provide good support. They are stylish, easy to brush off the dirt and have the old fashioned wide shoelaces that actually stay tied and knotted for most of the day for our kindergartner. We both love them, as we did during the toddler years with the velcro straps. Luckily, this style shoe comes in a variety of colors so we will keep buying them. (The foam uppers on the last pair disintegrated and fell apart in about 7 weeks and could not take on a bit of rain without causing wet socks in seconds.)These are the only shoes that my daughter is comfortable in. They are perfect for her flat, wide feet with her prescription inserts size 4.5XW. The podiatrist and the New Balance store recommended these for the extra support. We are grateful to find a shoe that she loves. She had two of the same model previously in the dusty rose/pink suede and now moved up a half size to the grey w/magenta. My only complaint is that the prior pairs always looked dirty fast and were difficult to clean up with the color and material. I'm hoping that this pair may look a little better longer in grey but I won't hold my breath since it is still in the same material. My daughter did wear down the outside bottom corners of the shoe but she is rough on them playing at recess and sports and wore them in all kinds of weather since nothing else fits as well. I hope they keep making this model and maybe give different choices in material and colors.I needed LACE UP tennis shoes for my son, because he will not leave shoes on his feet. Do you know how difficult it is to find lace up shoes in a size 5 infant/toddler without paying a ridiculous price? We found these on sale. Otherwise, I would not have paid for this kind of shoe for an18 month old who will grow out of them in just a couple of months. That being said... I will buy New Balance for my son every time they go on a significant sale because they fit perfectly, they look adorable and he keeps them on his feet! He was measured at Stride Rite to be a size 5. I have found that shoe sizes are all over the place. I previously ordered a pair of brown leather lace up casual shoes size 5 and when they arrived they might as well have been a size 7. So, when I ordered these NB I had my fingers crossed. NB is true to size! No guess work. Thank you New Balance!I originally bought these just for running but they are literally the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned and fit perfectly (which is usually difficult for me as I'm a 5.5 and a lot of places don't carry it) so I think I'm going to be wearing them regularly now. They look very good as well, not too bulky and in your face like a lot of sports shoes.
